Established in 2016, the EIU's Public Policy Consulting practice specialises in evidence-based insights that create impact by building awareness and influencing policy on the biggest issues facing our world. We do this by connecting organizations' strategies to policy aims and delivering solutions that empower clients to shape policy issues with influencers inside and outside government. The Public Policy Consulting practice is an entrepreneurial, high-growth, global team. Based in Washington, D.C., the Director of Public Affairs will establish a new Public Affairs practice within The Economist Group. This is a new position reporting to the Global Director of Public Policy. The Director will provide senior-level counsel and assist clients in developing multi-faceted communications strategies to shape and inform the political and policy environment. A successful Director will be confident in an entrepreneurial environment, develop and innovate the practice's offerings, have the ability to secure and build strong client relationships and develop new business opportunities. This is both a hands-on and strategic leadership role.. Accountabilities. How you will contribute. Practice Leadership. Establish Public Affairs practice strategy, including go-to-market strategy and people strategy. Identify and create synergies within The Economist Group for services and products. Effectively lead account teams on complex client communications challenges. Client Delivery. Provide expert communications and/or advocacy counsel to clients in line with their respective business priorities. Manage overall quality and delivery of work on multiple accounts in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Oversee client budgets, business strategy, and be accountable for client account profitability. Business Development. Generate and lead new business development efforts. Identify emerging opportunities to add greater value for clients. Recognize and apply global and regional social, economic and other impactful policy trends, and translate those insights into actionable ideas. Possess, develop and maintain relationships with trade associations, non-profits, corporations and others to enhance and grow business. Experience, skills and professional attributes. The desirable skills for this role include:. Keen interest in global public policy issues, as well as a natural intellectual curiosity. A minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience developing and executing communications and advocacy strategies is ideal. Congressional, Executive Branch and/or trade association experience a plus. In-house corporate communications and/or communications firm experience a plus. Superior strategic thinking, writing, and presentation skills required
