The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) is the research and analysis division of The Economist Group and the world leader in global business intelligence. The public policy consulting division of the EIU is our fastest growing business. With a global footprint, we help clients navigate the toughest public policy challenges and our consulting teams specialise in evidence based insights that create impact for businesses, governments and non-profits. Reporting directly to the CEO of the EIU, the Global Managing Director will have overall P&L accountability for the performance of the business, leading the practice through 3 regional directors each running a team of consultants; the role is also supported by a commercial director and business development team. The practice has teams in New York, Washington, London, Dubai, Singapore, India and Hong Kong.. The Global Managing Director will be the intellectual and commercial lead for the business, responsible for building new relationships with significant prospects, introducing them to EIU public policy capabilities and developing the propositions required for the EIU to significantly grow the public policy practice.. Accountabilities. How you will contribute:. Overall P&L accountability for the public policy global practice. Lead a public policy management committee to drive the business, achieve its financial targets and execute the growth strategy. Member of EIU management committee, reporting to the EIU CEO. Lead the development and execution of the public policy strategy, including client propositions, geographic focus, client prioritisation, staff structure, account retention and partnerships. Develop an outward-facing client engagement strategy that will drive maximum revenue growth and retention. Serve as key senior client contact for the largest public policy accounts - use influence and position to renew and grow these accounts, deepening the relationships with these clients. Take an externally facing ambassadorial role to develop the public policy business. Represent the public policy business across the Economist Group. Continue to develop a pool of consultants across the 3 regions capable of generating and retaining significant ongoing revenue through their own relationships. Validate quality for final deliverables on critically important projects. Experience, skills and professional attributes. The desirable skills for this role include:. A proven track record as a business leader with demonstrable experience of global P&L accountability and having achieved commercial success within the consulting industry. Strong experience of building and nurturing consulting teams to high levels of success. A consultative operating style with real executive presence - highly developed client engagement, presentation and influencing skills. Proven commercial success with a range clients, with the experience necessary to have a strong point of view on the EIU offering and future direction of the business. Outstanding and visible leadership skills; the ability to communicate a clear vision and direction for change and engage a wider organisation with geographically dispersed teams. Strategic ability to manage complexity, yet maintain a strong focus on delivery and outcomes. A relentlessly commercial mind-set. Motivation to both lead a business, delivering through teams but also as a client-facing leader in the market
